3 Reasons why it’s Okay for your Child to wear Make-up
Children play like it’s their job.
Guess what? It is.
As a 3-year old, the most important part of the day is to catch the morning cartoons or play with new toys, right after making it through breakfast.
Another thing the young ones can’t wait for is ‘Playtime’. It can range from imitating a parent to dressing up their doll and talking to it and even cooking up a gourmet meal in a pretend kitchen.
Play teaches children problem-solving and develops cognitive skills.
What can they do to become like dad? What do table manners seem like? Is this how you pretend in a class? Will jumping down from that wooden shelf get me the attention I need right now?
Since children like to do what they want, when they want, for parents this can often be concerning. One such thing is playing around with makeup. Since makeup contains a range of harsh chemicals that might not harm adult skin but could prove to be damaging to children’s mild skin.
Nothing is quite as effective as learning by doing, for children. This helps them make sense of the world around them. Your little one will learn the art of communication, negotiation and social skills only when interacting with the immediate environment.
Makeup helps in this process. Being able to manipulate the way their nails look and the colors they put on their lips to look just like their mom are all part of the first steps into role-playing and make-believe. Letting them play around with makeup, something they believe to be restricted to adults can do wonders for their self-esteem.
The ability to pretend and be someone else, even for a little while, allows them to develop an understanding of possibilities.
Letting loose the Creativity
But not completely. Setting some boundaries is important. For example getting her children’s makeup instead of lending her yours is a better idea. Many brands offer non-toxic products for children and even work to achieve eco-friendly results.
The best idea is to take part in their play. You can have an active role in teaching them symbolic play and encouraging imagination. As your child grows older the makeup skill they learn can be utilized in school plays and they can do their own makeup on events like Halloween!
